During my time with LA Galaxy, a late-night idea between me and my coworker Nelson Arriaza sparked something bigger than we imagined. We dreamed about what a collaboration between a soccer club and a skate brand could look like. Within two weeks, that vision came to life through a partnership with Dirty Ghetto Kids (DGK), resulting in the first of its kind MLS skateboard release.
The project launched with three boards: the ‘Locally Grown, Globally Known’ board, the ‘Community’ board, and the ‘Quasar’ board. Each was tied to a Galaxy match, with proceeds benefiting the LA Galaxy Foundation and DGK’s Saved by Skateboarding. The collaboration expanded into limited-edition merchandise and introduced a new secondary mascot that blended skate and soccer culture. What started as a grassroots idea trickled across the sports world, and 19 other US professional sports teams followed suit.

The ‘Locally Grown, Globally Known’ board went on to become the first MLS skateboard design to be turned into an official Tech Deck.
Released as a limited-edition giveaway, it brought the collaboration to an even wider audience, putting a piece of LA Galaxy culture into the hands of fans, collectors, and skaters alike. What began as a matchday exclusive grew into a tangible symbol of creativity and crossover appeal.

Celebrated the “Community Kit” aesthetic with a bold color palette and checkerboard motifs. Included a grassroots activation featuring Carson High School skaters and soccer players, complete with DGK skateboards, scarves, balls, and safety gear from partners
"Galaxy and skateboarding fans alike will have a chance to own this one‑of‑a‑kind deck, with all proceeds being directed back to our communities."

The Quasar shirt drew inspiration from the look and feel of local bodegas, delis, and blue-collar businesses—the grassroots backbone of Los Angeles.
A phone number printed on the back became its own activation, directing callers to a voicemail from pro skater Boo Johnson with a special discount message, adding an authentic and unexpected layer to the release.

The DGK x LA Galaxy skateboards were also featured in the skateboarding video game Session. Players could equip the boards in-game, bringing the collab into the digital skate world and expanding its reach to a global audience.
